Man Accused of Stabbing His Mother Held on $2M Bond

(FOND DU LAC) A Fond du Lac man is jailed on a $2 million cash bond after prosecutors say he tried to kill his mother in a knife attack inside their home.

Luis Antonio Sevilla Benavidez is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, mayhem and aggravated battery, all with domestic abuse and dangerous weapon enhancers.

Prosecutors say Benavidez is believed to be from Nicaragua and that the Department of Homeland Security advised he does not have legal status and is in the United States illegally.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called to a home on Harrison Place on March 21 after a 911 call cut off mid-incident. When an officer arrived, a person outside signaled that a woman inside was being attacked. The officer forced entry and found Benavidez standing over the victim with a knife.

Investigators say Benavidez, the womanโ€™s son, stabbed her at least 26 times. The wounds included injuries to her abdomen, chest, arm and leg, and she was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery.

Witnesses told police the violence began after an argument over loud music. The complaint says Benavidez had been drinking and threatened to kill people in the home if anyone called 911.

The woman told investigators her son forced his way into her locked bedroom and attacked her. She later underwent surgery for internal injuries, including damage to her intestines, according to the complaint.

Authorities say officers were able to stop the attack and take Benavidez into custody at the scene.

He is scheduled to return to court later this month.
