Lightning Strike Sparks House Fire in Washington County

(JACKSON) A week of severe storms across Wisconsin turned dangerous again Wednesday night, when lightning sparked a house fire that caused major damage in Washington County.

Deputies say the fire started around 10:12 p.m. at a home along Division Road in the Town of Jackson. By the time crews arrived, flames had already spread through much of the house.

Neighbors say they heard a loud boom before seeing smoke and fire. One neighbor ran over with a fire extinguisher and managed to knock down part of the flames, but the fire had already moved through the inside of the home.

Firefighters from Jackson were joined by crews from several nearby communities as they worked to put out the fire.

No one was inside the home at the time.

Damage to the home and a vehicle is estimated at $335,000.

The fire also shut down Highway 60 for about two and a half hours and Division Road for roughly three and a half hours.
