Juneau Fire Department Launch Program Offering Free Smoke Detectors

(Juneau) The Juneau Fire Department has recently received a grant from Kwik Trip to start a smoke detector program. The program will offer one free smoke detector for every home in the City of Juneau. Chief Ed Weiss says all you need to do is call.ย

โ€œIt [would] be on our Facebook page, so you can contact through there,โ€ says Weiss. โ€œOr you can go through my contact. And along with that, you know, weโ€™ll come and help get that set up. Along with that, weโ€™ll also give you a checklist for homeowners to do a self-evaluation of your home if youโ€™re fire safe.โ€

Weiss says the department is always trying to spread fire awareness around the city. He adds that something like this is very helpful.

โ€œIt really helps us out and Kwik Trip has helped us out quite a bit and even just during incidents they help supply food.โ€

Weiss says the department and the local Kwik Trip worked side by side and the convenience store company gave $250 to start the program.
