Iron Ridge Fire Chief Shares History Of The Department

(Iron Ridge) The Iron Ridge Fire Department was established over 130 years ago and currently serves the townships of Herman, Hubbard, Rubicon, and the village of Iron Ridge. The department is privately owned and operates with non-profit status. Chief Jason Keller says the department contracts with municipalities.

“We’ve been contracting with our municipalities for 136 years,” says Keller. “So, we were established in 1888, and just have, you know, very fortunate to be where we are at this point. We’ve had great leaders over the years that have helped guide us.”

Keller says that the board of directors has done a great job guiding the department in the right direction and planning for the future. The chief says that while the department is not looking to expand their services, he says at some point down the road, some departments may have to merge or consolidate areas because of how large Dodge County is.
