(UNDATED) Experts say the war in Iran is hurting farmers in Wisconsin. It’s a critical point in the growing season, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is threatening global fertilizer shipments.
“We’re probably going to see a lot of farmers go into debt or some bankruptcies,” international trade attorney Marina Melkeil told 620 WTMJ. “Even if the conflict were to end today, the damage has already kind of started, and will snowball.”
Melkeil said the crisis will also mean higher food prices this fall.
