(Horicon) A groundbreaking ceremony is planned next week for Horicon School District’s new athletic complex. The district is nearly a year into using their new and updated school, with 4k through 12th grade on the same campus at 841 Gray Street. District officials say their school and most of the surrounding property now reflect the forward-thinking programs they offer. The only exception, they note, is their current track and field. The original track deteriorated over time due to its low-lying location. Officials say a new track and football field would complete the renewal of their entire school campus and provide a modern athletic complex that students and the community deserve. The facility would include a football field, practice field, running track, press box, ticket booth and a new parking lot. The plan for a new athletic complex has been in discussion for years but officially kicked off in the spring thanks to some generous donations. So far, the district has fundraised roughly $2.1-million-dollars. The goal is to raise $2.8-million for a natural grass field or $3.4-million for synthetic turf. The groundbreaking ceremony will be at 12 noon on September 13th at the campus on 841 Gray Street. Click HERE for more information about the district’s fundraising campaign.
