Friendship Man Accused Of Firing At Deputies Facing Attempted Homicide Charge

(Columbia County) A Friendship man is facing Attempted Homicide charges following an officer involved shooting incident in Columbia County over the weekend. Richard O’Hara is also facing charges of Fleeing, Operating a Firearm While Intoxicated, and Carry a Concealed Weapon.  

Just before 6pm Saturday, the Columbia County agency received an attempt to locate from Adams County authorities for an intoxicated man who was armed and suicidal. The individual, reportedly identified as O’Hara, fled deputies when located a short time later.  

His vehicle was disabled by a tire deflation device and the 62-year-old allegedly opened fire at deputies. Three sheriff’s deputies returned fire. No one was struck and O’Hara was taken into custody following negotiations. Detectives recovered a total of two handguns possessed by O’Hara as well as shell casings.  

Authorities say the investigation is on-going and law enforcement continues to review evidence and speak to witnesses. They note that additional charges are possible. Cash bond was at $100,000 during O’Hara’s initial appearance in court and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 15th.
