(Fox Lake) A Fox Lake man and a former Wisconsin prison employee has plead guilty to bribery. William Homan entered the plea to federal smuggling charges for bringing contraband into a state maximum-security prison in exchange for bribes.
According to court documents, Homan was a former facilities repair worker at Waupun Correctional Institution. The 47-year-old received approximately 125 bribe payments totaling over $53-thousand-dollars from July of 2022 to September of 2023.
Prosecutors say the bribes were from inmates, former inmates, and their associates. Homan pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Federal Program Bribery.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 12th and Homan faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has investigated the case.ย
