Dodge County Sheriff Details Changes Coming To Highway 151, County Road C Intersection

(Trenton) The Dodge County sheriff joined Community Comment Wednesday to discuss an upcoming project that aims to minimize potential crashes at an intersection. Construction is planned for the Highway 151 and County Road C intersection in the town of Trenton this May.

The intersection has a history of accidents, the most recent happening this past Sunday. The plan is to redesign the intersection utilizing a restricted crossing u-turn, or an R-Cut. Sheriff Dale Schmidt explains.

“What will happen is…let’s say you’re coming from Fox Lake going towards 151…you’re traveling east on Highway C…you won’t be able to cross over the median to make a left hand turn to go north…instead you will need to make a right hand turn go about a quarter-mile south and merge over into the left lane and then merge into the median turnaround and then you would turn,” says Schmidt. “The benefit of doing this…is you’re going to see traffic coming at you that’s traveling north out your windshield…not looking passed the A and B pillar or the side windows.”

Schmidt notes that this intersection design means less contact points and reduces broadside collision style crashes. The sheriff highlighted the work of Dodge County Traffic Safety Commission has also helped bring the intersection’s needs to the forefront of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
