Fox Lake Historical Society Cavalry Program

(Fox Lake)  The Fox Lake Historical society will be presenting a program by Jess Martinez on Cavalry movements during the Civil War.  The program titled “The Devil to Pay: Cavalry actions on the first day of Gettysburg” will feature a brief explanation of the battle followed by talk about how the Cavalry and it’s comrades influenced the campaign.  Jesse Martinez, who describes himself as a history and military enthusiast, is a member of the 8th Regimental Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, a civil war reenactment group out of northern Illinois.  Martinez says he considers “it a great honor to find the original members of this great unit and keep their names alive for history.  In this way these men will not become part of the forgotten heroes of this country.”  The Devil to Pay: Cavalry Movements during the Civil War program will be held on Saturday March 14th at the Community Congregational Museum in Fox Lake.  The Presentation begins at 6:30pm and is open to the public and free to attend.  Treats will be provided by the Fox Lake Historical Society members after the conclusion of the program.  Those seeking more information can call 920-296-0254.
