Four Bystanders To Be Recognized For Pulling Man From Burning Wreckage

(Beaver Dam) The civilians who helped remove a motorist from a burning vehicle in Beaver Dam will be recognized by the city later this month. On April 30, a car travelling south on North Spring Street lost control and hit several traffic light poles and a house porch before coming to rest in the front yard and bursting into flames. Fire Chief Alan Mannel told the city’s Police and Fire Commission that four witnesses sprang into action and pulled the driver from wreckage. Bradley Burchardt, Matthew Fischbach, Robert Ritter, and Bruce Siebert will be recognized for rushing into harm’s way to simultaneously extinguish the fire and rescue the unconscious driver. Mannel is prevented by law from disclosing the victims specific injuries but says “he would not have made it.” The four will be recognized with a Civilian Service Award at the Beaver Dam Common Council’s June 18 meeting.
