Fond du Lac Man Convicted in 2024 Parking Lot Shooting, Faces Decades in Prison

(FOND DU LAC) A Fond du Lac jury has found a man guilty for a shooting that left one person seriously hurt and put several others in danger outside a downtown business.

Luis A. Guzman-Romero was convicted on 11 criminal counts tied to an October 2024 shooting in the parking lot of Hoppers Screen Printing on North Main Street. The verdict includes first-degree reckless injury, aggravated battery, four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct, two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping and two counts of criminal damage to property, according to the Fond du Lac County District Attorneyโ€™s Office.

The shooting happened the night of Oct. 20, 2024, after witnesses said Guzman-Romero drove through the parking lot in a pickup truck, nearly striking another vehicle. Court records say a confrontation followed, during which Guzman-Romero pulled out a handgun. One man was shot in the shoulder, and bullets also struck a nearby building and a parked SUV.

Police said multiple people were in the immediate area at the time of the shooting, leading to several charges for recklessly endangering safety. Investigators later identified Guzman-Romero through surveillance video, license plate reader data and witness statements. According to the criminal complaint, Guzman-Romero admitted to shooting the victim and identified himself in surveillance images from the scene.

A judge revoked Guzman-Romeroโ€™s bond following the juryโ€™s verdict and ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Prosecutors say he now faces more than 75 years of initial prison confinement when sentencing is scheduled.
