Flags At Half Staff On One Year Anniversary Of Waukesha Christmas Parade Tragedy

(Waukesha) The governor has ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff Monday in recognition of the one year anniversary of the Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy. Tony Evers says as Wisconsin remembers this tragic event, we also reflect on the first responders, community leaders, and neighbors who ran toward danger to help.

He says his thoughts are with everyone who was impacted, the six lives that were mercilessly taken, and all the loved ones whom this anniversary will be specifically difficult and traumatic. Darrell Brooks was sentenced last week to life in prison without the possibility of parole for driving an SUV through the parade route.

It was the maximum penalty allowed by state law. Brooks was given life without parole for all six deaths, and an additional 762-and-a-half years for the injuries suffered by others.
