Fire Department Responds to Call of Flaming Garbage Truck

Emergency responders in Beaver Dam were busy for a short time Tuesday after looking for a flaming garbage truck. Deputy Chief Matt Christian says the 9-1-1 calls came in around 12:30pm reporting that a Veolia Environmental waste collection truck was driving around with an apparent fire on board. Before the truck was located the driver noticed the flames and used a fire extinguisher to snuff out the flare-up. Christian says a piece of cardboard fell onto the exhaust manifold of the motor, which is located in the middle of the truck between the compactor and the cab, and started smoldering. There were no injuries, no damage to the truck and the operator continued with his route after fire crews cleared the truck for use.
