FDL Police Stress Suicide Support After Weekend Incident

(Fond du Lac) The Fond du Lac Police Department is stressing suicide prevention resources and mental health crises lines after a weekend incident. Authorities were notified that a woman appeared to be in the process of jumping off the Johnson Street overpass bridge just after midnight Sunday.

An officer approached the 19-year-old, who was described as “distraught,” and found her hanging by her arms off the south side of the bridge. Police attempted to hold onto the teen, but she ended up falling and landed on a grassy area below. Law enforcement say the woman was located conscious and alert.

She was transported by first responders to a local hospital with what are believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say if you are in imminent danger or experiencing a medical emergency call 911, but if you are having thoughts of suicide or self-harm contact your local crises line.

To reach Dodge County’s crises lines call 920-386-4094 or 888-552-6642 after hours.
