Drug Summit In Mayville Wednesday

(Mayville) Mayville will play host to a drug summit this week aimed at raising awareness on substance abuse. Mayville Chamber of Commerce Administrator Jessica Giese says there was a need for a program allows community members to openly talk about a serious issue. She says the Chamber reached out to Stop Heroin Now and several other local groups to organize a summit. Giese says there will be several different speakers at the event. She says there will be resources available which includes informational packets and contact lists from area groups beginning at 5pm, at 6pm there will be presentations from Appleton based Rise Together and Bev Kelley Miller from the Megan Kelley Foundation. Giese says a question and answer period will begin at 8pm. Stop Heroin Now President Jessica Geschke says her organizations role at the summit will be to help facilitate resource needs for those in attendance. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community, Geschke says her son will also be speaking at the summit. In August of last year, 12-year-old Kellen was unfortunately the first one home to find that his uncle had overdosed. Geschke says her son will discuss that it is okay for kids his age to talk about drug abuse and seek help if need be. The Mayville Drug Summit will begin at 5pm on Wednesday, May 9 at the Mayville High School Gym located at 500 North Clark Street.
