Driver Killed In Crash On Highway 41

(ALLENTON) A driver is dead after a crash on Highway 41 near the Washington and Dodge county line Wednesday afternoon.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls around 12:08 p.m. reporting a two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes just south of Highway 28. One caller said someone was trapped and not responsive.

When first responders arrived, they found the driver and sole occupant of a sedan dead inside the vehicle.

Investigators say the other vehicle was a Dodge County Highway Department work truck towing a trailer. The truck was traveling south in the inside lane with its work lights on and had slowed to turn into an “Official Vehicles Only” median turnaround south of Highway 28. Authorities say the sedan, which was behind the truck, struck the trailer and then hit the shoulder-side guardrail.

The people inside the highway department truck were not hurt.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team documented the scene. Southbound Highway 41 was shut down from Highway 28 to Highway D for about three hours while crews responded and cleared the wreckage.

The crash remains under investigation.
