Dodge County Volunteers Sought For Long Term Care Facilities

(Wisconsin) The Board on Aging and Long Term Care is looking for volunteers in Dodge County. The board is a state agency that advocates for the interests of the stateโ€™s long term care consumers, informs those consumers of their rights, and educates the public at large about healthcare systems and long term care. For those that are interested in getting involved, Assisted Living Project Lead Kim Verstegen says people can head to their website.

โ€œSo you can always go to our website and learn about what the Board on Aging and Longe Term Care is,โ€ says Verstegen. โ€œBut our telephone number if you want to go directly through the phone line is 1-800 815-0015.โ€

Verstegen says that number is not only for someone wanting to become a volunteer, but also if someone wants to file a complaint for a loved one or themselves. The assisted living project lead says the next step is filling out an application and a background check.

โ€œSo, once we can get that all cleared, then we have to do the conflict of interest because thereโ€™s always a conflict of interest clause, Verstegen says. โ€œGet that cleared and then we do our training. We like to get three or four more volunteers in a class together. And then I like to get a current volunteer [to] be a part of the class so that they see whatโ€™s going on.โ€

After that Verstegen says the board discusses with their regional ombudsman to see if there are any nearby facilities the newly trained workers can be placed in as well as figuring out transportation.
