Dodge County Unemployment Sees Little Change In May

(Dodge County) Regional jobless claims stayed relatively steady in the fifth month of the year. The state Department of Workforce Development says the unemployment rate in Dodge County was 2.6-percent in May, just a one-tenth of a percent drop from the month prior. Last year, the number was 2.5-percent. Dodge County jumped three spots in the statewide unemployment ranking to seventh.

Columbia County jobless numbers saw the exact same month-to-month change as Dodge County. In 2023, the figure was 2.4-percent.

Jefferson Countyโ€™s unemployment rate went from 2.7-percent in April to 2.8-percent in March. A year ago, the number was 2.5-percent.

Fond du Lac County saw a two-tenths of a percentage point increase from Aprilโ€™s 2.5-percent to Mayโ€™s 2.7-percent. Last year, it was 2.4-percent.

Throughout the entire state, more people are working than at any time in its history. Department of Workforce Development Section Chief Scott Hodek says the continued low unemployment rate is good for workers.ย ย

“If you’re looking for a job, now is a good time,โ€ says Hodek. โ€œWe’re looking at about two job openings per unemployed person.โ€

Over 3 million people are now employed in the state, and the unemployment level is at 2.9-percent, about a point below the national average.
