(Juneau) Local law enforcement officials encourage the motoring public to install dash cams in their vehicles. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the devices are a great way to collect evidence and if an individual is involved in an accident, it ensures that an accurate recount of the events can be viewed by investigators.
“We’ve had several crashes that have happened where people in the public have had a dash cam…and [law enforcement] is always able to put together a crash pretty close to what happened based on the evidence at the scene…the skid marks…where the vehicle is…and we’re usually able to download things from the vehicle…but it makes it a lot easier when we actually have a dash cam from the incident that shows us this is what happened,” says Schmidt. “We still do our work…do all that additional investigation…but it makes it a lot easier to see what happened.”
Schmidt says a good quality dash cam can be purchased at a relatively low cost. He notes that they are easy to install, and can provide a peace of mind when behind the wheel of your car.
