Dodge County Health Remind Public Of Free Radon Test Kits

(Juneau) The Dodge County Public Health Department is reminding the public there are free radon testing kits available for pickup. The initiative is part of Radon Action Month, which takes place throughout January. Jessica Maloney is with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

โ€œIt’s colorless, odorless, and it’s radioactive, and it enters buildings through cracks and foundations, sump crocks and utility lines,โ€ says Maloney. โ€œAnd radon decays pretty quickly and gives off radioactive particles.โ€ย

Maloney urges homeowners to test for radon. She says, โ€œthey should go out and get a test kit this month, because January is a perfect time to test.โ€

Officials with Dodge County Public Health say citizens can get a free radon test kit from their department at 199 County Road DF in Juneau Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm.

They say that radon can cause lung cancer if exposed to it for prolonged periods of time and that one out of 10 homes in Wisconsin has high radon levels.ย
