Dodge County Has Foreclosed Property For Purchase

(Juneau) The Dodge County Treasurer is highlighting county-owned tax foreclosed property and how residents can acquire the land. Kris Keith says each year property is transferred to Dodge County through the foreclosure process called โ€œIn Remโ€.

This process is governed by state statutes. The treasurer notes that most people do not realize that the tax foreclosure process is triggered when there are unpaid current-year real estate taxes on the first working day in September, called Sale Date. Keith says on that date, she will issue a tax certificate against any parcel with 2023 unpaid taxes.

She adds that if a parcelโ€™s taxes remain delinquent three years after the certificate is issued, the final steps in tax foreclosure will begin. Currently Dodge County is foreclosing on property with unpaid 2020 taxes. Keith says tax foreclosure is not the same as a bank foreclosure or Sheriffโ€™s Sale. Those are both Wednesday auctions through the Sheriff’s Department, while In rem sales are through a sealed bid process.
