Dodge County Fair Meat Animal Sale Draws Large Crowd

(Beaver Dam) Area youth sold off their prize-winning livestock during Thursday night’s 59th Annual Meat Animal Auction at the Dodge County Fair. 

In the Market Beef Auction, Matthew Roche of Columbus sold his Champion Dairy for $5 a pound to Hupf’s Repair. Gavin Lewke of Juneau had the Champion Beef which went for $5 a pound to Professional Floor Covering. Jacob Roche of Columbus had the Reserve Champion Dairy which went for $5.50 a pound to Pine Hills Trucking. Elijah Zick of Fond du lac got $3.75 a pound from Strieter Farm Truck Services for his Reserve Champion Beef. 

The Market Lamb Auction followed the beef. Beaver Dam’s Olivia Bird got $8 a pound from Maas Brothers Construction for her Sale Champion Homebred Lamb, while Kadie Brusveen of Iron Ridge got $7.25 for her Grand Champion Market Lamb from United Electric. Frey Livestock bought the Reserve Champion Market Lamb for $7.75 from Waupun’s Leo Panatti.   

The Market Hogs finished off the auction as Kyle Galston of Beaver Dam got $8.50 a pound from Lewke Farms for his Supreme Champion. The Grand Champion Gilt, brought by Lucas Schlimgen of Marshall, went for $5.25 a pound to United Electric. Harmony Henschel-Paar of Reeseville sold her Reserve Champion Barrow at $5.75 a pound to Pernat-Haase Meats. Lasche Plumbing bought the Sale Champion Gilt from Iris Brisky of Columbus at $5.75 a pound. 

The highlight of the night came when a bidding war broke out between Ag Spectrum and Griswold Excavating over Lindsay Propst’s 297-pound gilt hog. Ag Spectrum bought the hog for $23 a pound, or $6,831, which drew an applause from the crowd in attendance.
