(Juneau) The Dodge County District Attorney’s Office is warning residents of a scam making the rounds. The district attorney’s office was notified Wednesday that some people have received auto-generated phone messages that appear to be coming from their office phone number. The message says the person’s social security number has been used fraudulently and directs them to respond or be faced with arrest and prosecution. Officials with the county’s district attorney’s office say this is a scam to gain personally identifying information and ex-tort money from the public. They say their office will never make a phone call threatening legal action or ask for personal information. The public is urged to not respond to these phone calls. If anyone has questions they are asked to call their local law enforcement agency or the district attorney’s office using the legitimate, published numbers for those offices.
