Dodge County Dairy Processor Receives DATCP Grant

(Theresa) A Dodge County business was the recent recipient of a Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection diary processor grant. The purpose of the grant is to help foster innovation, improve profitability, and sustain the long-term viability of Wisconsinโ€™s diary processing facilities.

Widmerโ€™s Cheese Cellars, which is located in Theresa, was one of seven dairy companies receiving funds. The business is planning to use the money to help with a planned expansion.

State officials say dairy processors can begin applying for the next round of grant funds. A total of $200,000 is available as part of the biennial budget. Eligible applicants must operate a licensed dairy processing plant in Wisconsin that is engaged in pasteurizing, processing, or manufacturing milk or dairy products.

Funding from these grants can be used to address a wide range of dairy business needs such as food safety, staff training, plant expansion or modernization, and professional consulting services. The application window is January 17th.
