(Beaver Dam) The holidays can be a stressful time for some. Marshfield Medical Center – Beaver Dam Psychiatrist Christina Friedl says there can be a few reasons why a person is feeling down this time of year.
“The holidays can be stressful because there’s a lot of pressure for it to be perfect and for you to feel happy and then when you’re not…or maybe you are feeling sad or that it’s not living up to expectations I think that can create a sense of sadness,” says Friedl. “Also, some people feel lonely around the holidays…they may not have people so I think that too can be hard is if you’re either far away from family or if you don’t have people to spend it with.”
Friedl says some signs to keep an eye out for if you suspect a loved one is feeling stressed include anxiousness, feeling overwhelmed, and irritability.
