DNR Encouraging Public To Limit Time Outdoors Due To Canadian Wildfire Smoke

(Wisconsin) The DNR is encouraging Wisconsinites to limit their time outdoors Tuesday and Wednesday due to the Canadian wildfire smoke. Smoke will be moving from the northwest to the southeast across the state throughout the day.

An air quality advisory for the entire state will be in effect from noon today through noon tomorrow. DNR officials say health impacts are expected to reach the unhealthy level, with short-term spikes of very unhealthy levels possible.

People with heart or lung disease, older adults and children should not be outside for very long. The public is also encouraged to close doors and windows, avoid activities that increase indoor pollution such as vacuuming or frying food, and use an N95 mask if outdoors for long periods.

This is the second time this year that an air quality advisory has been issued in Wisconsin. Both have been a direct result of Canadian wildfire smoke. Air quality advisories are expected to continue through the summer, as wildfires continue to occur.
