(Wisconsin) The Wisconsin DNR is encouraging all ATV and UTV riders to make safety a part of their outdoor fun this weekend. Officials say warmer weather, longer days and holiday celebrations are likely to make for busy trails.
The DNR urges all riders to ride sober and watch their speed. Last year, there were 21 alcohol-related ATV/UTV deaths in Wisconsin. Many of these crashes could be prevented by following the rules of safe riding, with sober operation being one of the most important.
Wisconsin DNR Off-Highway Vehicle Administrator Jacob Holsclaw says older riders need to be an example to the younger generation by wearing their helmet and a seatbelt while riding.
Other safety tips include never consume alcohol or drugs before riding, do not travel in unfamiliar areas, and follow posted speed limit signs.
