(Wisconsin) A new report from the state Department of Health Services finds that falls are a leading cause of injury and death in Wisconsin. Kris Krasnowski, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging, says thatโs been known for some time.
โBut here in Wisconsin, we have the highest death rate due to falls in the country,โ says Krasnowski.
She adds that many factors can contribute to fall risks.
โCertainly hazards in the home. We know most falls are happening in and around people’s homes.โ
Last year, EMS providers responded to over 130,000 falls across the state, the top injury they responded to. September is Fall Prevention Awareness Month. Find out more at fallsfreewi.org. Click HERE to visit the site.
