(FOND DU LAC) A Fond du Lac man will spend more than two decades in prison after selling drugs that led to a mother’s fatal overdose.
A judge sentenced Omar Jabbar Simpson to 22 years in prison, including 12 years of confinement and 10 years of extended supervision, for his role in delivering fentanyl that contributed to her death in March 2022, according to the district attorney’s office.
Investigators say the woman was found unresponsive in a bedroom after a night when she had been in contact with Simpson to buy drugs. Police traced messages and witness accounts that showed she went to Simpson’s home and later told others the heroin she had came from him.
A medical examiner determined she died from a mix of drugs, including fentanyl at a level high enough to be fatal on its own — about seven times higher than a lethal dose, according to the criminal complaint.
Prosecutors said Simpson supplied the drugs that led to the overdose. He was ultimately convicted of second-degree reckless homicide as a repeat offender.
