(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists of the rules when passing a vehicle on the left on a two-way or two-lane highway.

A passing zone is indicated by a centerline and can be represented by a normal broken yellow line with passing permitted, a double line, one normal broken yellow line, and one normal solid yellow line where passing is permitted in one direction. Wisconsin State Statutes 346.075 (2) and 346.08 to 346.11 state the operator of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left thereof at a safe distance and shall not again drive to the right side of the roadway until safely clear of the overtaken vehicle except when overtaking and passing on the right is permitted. 

 The operator of an overtaken vehicle shall give way to the right in favor of the overtaking vehicle and shall not increase the speed of the vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle.
