Columbus Mayoral Candidates Discuss Compensation For City Workers

(Columbus) The candidates for Columbus mayor shared their thoughts on employee compensation for city workers. Current Council President Ian Gray highlights a compensation study done by the city in 2022. He says the results of which showed that there were some areas that received less than below average pay.

โ€œThe current council has made it a priority to ensure that all employees are appropriately paid, and that we have an outlined plan on getting everyone at least to average or above within the next couple of years,โ€ says Gray.

Grays says that is a big portion of why the study was done. Joe Hammer, a former employee of the city for over 40 years, says compensation is not always about money.

โ€œSometimes itโ€™s, again, how do you know, โ€˜are they appreciated?โ€™, you know, โ€˜what kind of effort are we making to make sure theyโ€™re appreciated and that we have their back?โ€™โ€ Hammer says.

While both candidates have different views on how to solve the employment compensation issue in the city, they agree that itโ€™s a key focus that needs to be a top priority if they are elected.
