(Columbia County) A multi-department collaboration is being credited by the Portage Fire Department in efforts that saved the life of a hunter in the overnight hours.ย At 12:41AM Thursday morning, the Portage Fire Department was dispatched to N8251 Schultz Road in the township of Lewiston to assist the Columbia County Sheriffโs Office with locating and rescuing a male patient lost in the woods. ย The individual, a male hunter, left to track a deer at about 4:30pm on Wednesday afternoon.ย His ATV was located and following his tracks the hunter was found in a drainage ditch with a wound to the inside of his right leg, with the patient stating he was gored by a buck.ย Reports state he was disoriented and possibly suffering from hypothermia.ย Med Flight was contacted and made a difficult landing in a nearby field while rescue workers prepped the patient to be extricated from the area.ย The Wisconsin DNR, and Aspirus MedEvac, assisted at the scene.
