(Portage) Authorities in Columbia County have seen a recent increase in the number of illegal drugs throughout the area. Sheriff’s officials say the amount of cocaine recovered through investigations and traffic stops is significant, adding that methamphetamine continues to be prevalent in the county.
They say that the threat of illicit fentanyl pills being sold on the street and purported to be legitimate prescription opiates is also an issue that they are addressing.
Law enforcement note that these pills are extremely dangerous as there is no dosage control when they are made, and the user never knows the dosage of fentanyl in an individual pill. Illicit fentanyl pills continue to lead to many overdoses in southern Wisconsin.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office asks residents to contact their Crimestoppers tip line if they are aware of any criminal or drug activity. Tipsters can remain anonymous. Call 1-800-293-TIPS (8477).
