(Dekorra) Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed after being struck by a vehicle in the Town of Dekorra last Friday. At 2:46pm, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Tipperary Road. When a deputy arrived on scene, they found the pedestrian – who was identified as 70-year-old David Hepler of Poynette – to have sustained significant injuries. Driver of the vehicle, who was not identified by authorities, was trapped inside and was later extricated by the Poynette-Dekorra Fire Department. The preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was traveling east on Tipperary Road when it went off the roadway to the right, overcorrected and began to spin. Sheriff Roger Brandner says Hepler was walking against the traffic and was struck by the vehicle which went up a retaining wall and then rolled over. He says the driver, a 76-year-old male from Dane, received minor injuries. Hepler died at the scene. The crash is under investigation.
