Camping Season Opens Across Dodge County Parks

(JUNEAU) Camping season is back in Dodge County — and after a rough stretch of severe weather, parks are cleaned up and ready for visitors.

County parks staff spent the past week getting campsites in shape after recent storms, according to Land Resources and Parks Director Bill Ehlenbeck. Now, he says, everything is set for the season ahead.

People looking to camp have several options across the county. Astico Park offers the most sites, with about 60. Ledge Park remains a favorite for its views overlooking the Horicon Marsh. Smaller campgrounds are also open at Harnischfeger Park along the Rock River and Derge Park near Beaver Dam.

Altogether, the county sees around 10,000 campsite nights each year, a sign that demand stays strong.

But if you’re planning a trip, you’ll need to book ahead.

Dodge County no longer offers first-come, first-served camping. Reservations must be made in advance, either online or by phone. Most people are already using the online system, which now handles about 90% of bookings.

Ehlenbeck says campers can check availability and reserve sites through the county’s parks website.

For now, with cleanup complete and campsites open, county officials are hoping for a quieter stretch of weather — and a busy camping season ahead.
