(Beaver Dam) State Representative Mark Born recently supported legislation that aims to protect the rights of parents. The bill lays out the rights of parents when it comes to their children’s educational setting, authorizing medical services, accessing school and medical records, determining the pronouns used by their child, as well as opting out of certain educational instruction.
The Beaver Dam Republican says these (quote) “hot topic” issues were brought to light during the pandemic.
“Parents were concerned about…especially their child’s education systems, the schools in particular…what was going on there…what were the lines of communication…did parents really know what was going on…were parents having proper input,” says Born.
Born says the legislation also provides for remedial action if those rights are violated. He adds that the goal is to put parents back in the driver’s seat when it comes to core choices in their child’s life.
The bill must now pass the State Senate and be signed by the governor to become law.
