(Beaver Dam) State Representative Mark Born recently supported legislation that aims to protect the rights of parents. The bill lays out the rights of parents when it comes to their childrenโs educational setting, authorizing medical services, accessing school and medical records, determining the pronouns used by their child, as well as opting out of certain educational instruction.
The Beaver Dam Republican says these (quote) โhot topicโ issues were brought to light during the pandemic.
โParents were concerned aboutโฆespecially their childโs education systems, the schools in particularโฆwhat was going on thereโฆwhat were the lines of communicationโฆdid parents really know what was going onโฆwere parents having proper input,โ says Born.
Born says the legislation also provides for remedial action if those rights are violated. He adds that the goal is to put parents back in the driverโs seat when it comes to core choices in their childโs life.
The bill must now pass the State Senate and be signed by the governor to become law.
