Blue Zones Project Recognizes Small Businesses, Community Organizations

(Juneau) Several small businesses and community organizations have been recognized for participating in the Dodge County Blue Zones Project. Sponsored by the Beaver Dam Community Hospital, Blue Zones is a community-led, well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to environment, policy, and social networks. The recent celebration recognized 16 small businesses and civic organizations that have completed the Blue Zones Project Organization Checklist. The participants check-off a menu of options to improve the physical environment along with the well-being of their volunteers, members, clients, or employees. Action items include promoting volunteer opportunities, providing healthy and nutritious food options during meetings and events, and encouraging opportunities to move naturally and connect socially within the organization. Additionally, active members or employees of the group have an opportunity to complete the Blue Zones Personal Pledge, making a personal commitment to themselves to implement simple practices into their everyday lives, such as taking the stairs, removing television from the bedroom, or regularly eating dinner with family. The list of participating organizations, along with more information, can be found on our website DailyDodge.com.
