(Beaver Dam) Nominations are being accepted for the Beaver Dam School District’s 2019 Wall of Fame Awards. Honors are given in two categories: Friends of Education and Outstanding Alumni.
Friends of Education are individuals or organizations who have given distinguished service to the district and its students. The most recent recipients were Tom and Judy Heffron and the Alpha Xi Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Outstanding Alumni are graduates of the high school recognized for exceptional accomplishments, outstanding leadership, historical significance and prominence on the local, state, national or international stage. Gary Macheel, a 1970 graduate, was the 2018 Outstanding Alumni.
Macheel was nominated for 35 Emmy’s and took home eight awards, along with eleven Golden Reel Awards, for his work in television and films. Film star Fred MacMurray was first recipient. His credits include: The Hunley, Tuskegee Airmen, Heart of Darkness, Son of the Morning Star, Into the West, Tom Clancy’s – OP Center, Rough Riders, Fire Next Time, Lonesome Dove, and Ruby Ridge. Macheel also created the sound effects for the DeLorean in the original 1985 classic movie Back To The Future.
Nomination packets are available at the Educational Service Center (705 McKinley Street) and on the district website at www.bdusd.org. Packets are due back by close of business on March 13. The district will honor the 2019 Wall of Fame recipients at their Wall of Fame Banquet on May 31, 2020. Award plaques will be permanently displayed on the high school’s new Wall Of Fame in the common’s area.
