(Beaver Dam) Voters in Beaver Dam Tuesday night approved a binding referendum to fund a half dozen new positions in the fire department on a two-to-one margin. The hiring’s were the conclusion of a staffing study that also recommends the construction of a northside substation, which was not part of the referendum. With approval of the referendum, the mill rate for next year is projected at $9.46, down from this year’s $9.58. The impact for property owners would be $44-per $100-thousand dollars of assessed value. The budget impact of the referendum for Beaver Dam voters ranges from $487-thousand dollars next year to $607-thousand dollars in 2026. The additional staff are expected to reduce overtime costs by up to $110-thousand dollars.
