Beaver Dam School Officials Taking Nationwide TikTok Threat Seriously

(Beaver Dam) Local school officials are taking a nationwide social media threat seriously. A post on TikTok refers to a threat to school safety (quote) “for every school in the USA, even elementary.” The threat is for today Friday, December 17. Beaver Dam School Superintendent Mark DiStefano says the post appears to be part of a national TikTok trend and did not originate in the school district and he has heard reports from other districts that the same post is circulating in their schools.

DiStefano says while he does not believe the threat to be credible, he says officials are closely monitoring the situation and taking it seriously. He has been in contact with the Beaver Dam Police Department and there is an increased police presence in and around district buildings today as an added precaution.

DiStefano says the social media post serves as a good reminder for parents about why it is important to avoid sharing posts online that refer to school safety threats or any other inappropriate conduct.

Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff.

We ask our families to monitor their children’s social media activity on all platforms they may be using and speak with them about proper behavior online.

DiStefano says if you or your child become aware of any potential threat posted to social media or anywhere else, please notify a school staff member or trusted adult right away.
