(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School District Wall of Fame Committee has announced their latest Friends of Education and Outstanding Alumni.
Class of 1958 graduate John B. McKinstry is being recognized as Outstanding Alumni for his work as a philanthropist and businessman instrumental in establishing several local non-profit organizations, scholarships, and endowments. McKinstry is a founding member of the Beaver Dam Area Community Theater and the Dodge County Humane Society. He also ensured that the family furniture store remains a staple in Beaver Dam, which it has since 1858 making it the oldest family-owned home furnishings store in the state.
Three Friends of Education will also be recognized. Jeff and Sue Eberle have volunteered countless hours in creating successful high-school baseball programs, instilling in students the meaning of volunteering and the importance of giving back to your community.
Lisa Killingsworth has volunteered her time and shared her talents with students for several years, working with teachers to ensure children learn, grow, and are successful. Metalcraft of Mayville is being recognized as a Friend of Education because of significant investments, donating robotics and other equipment essential to the success of the district’s technology education program while also employing students through the Youth Apprenticeship program.
The Outstanding Alumni Award is given annually to a graduate of the district in recognition of the honoree’s exceptional accomplishments. The Friend of Education award recognizes individuals or an organization who have given distinguished service to the district and its students. The newly-announced recipients were supposed to be recognized last year but the ceremony was delayed due to the pandemic.
The Wall of Fame is also accepting nominations for this year’s Outstanding Alumni and Friends of Education; the deadline is March 12. All recipients will be honored in a virtual program this spring.
