Beaver Dam Man Makes Initial Appearance On Felony Fleeing Charges

(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam man is facing multiple charges following a pursuit with police on the Fourth of July. Jahir Pelayo is charged with felony Fleeing and First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety as well as misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct, Carry a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of THC.

Police received reports of a road rage incident around 3:30pm. The suspect, reportedly identified as Pelayo, had thrown fireworks at the complainant’s house and was seen driving westbound on Burnett Street. The vehicle was located a short time later and a pursuit ensued, according to the complaint.

Law enforcement say the suspect vehicle ignored several stop signs and speeds reached approximately 45-to-60-miles-per-hour in the city. The suspect vehicle eventually left the city, heading north on Highway A, and came to stop as it approached a flooded field.

Pelayo exited the vehicle and allegedly fled on foot and was observed throwing something into the water. He then turned around and gave himself up to the authorities. A search of the vehicle reportedly yielded a holster and a 9mm magazine for a firearm. A firearm was located in the field.

Pelayo allegedly told police that he was running for his life and the he did not stop because he was scared.

If convicted on the felony charges, the 20-year-old faces 18-and-a-half-years in prison. Cash bond was set at $5,000 during his initial appearance in court and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 1st.ย
