(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam man was found guilty Wednesday of making violent threats towards authorities. John Cowen entered a no contest plea to a felony count of Threats to Law Enforcement and misdemeanor charges of Resisting and Unlawful Phone Use. A total of twelve other felonies and misdemeanors were dismissed but read into the record.
During a call to the Beave Dam Police Departmentโs non-emergency number from his phone last June, Cowen said (quote) โI have a prediction โฆ that one of your pigs is going to be shot.โ Sheriffโs detectives then called Cowen who denied placing the call but did admit that he hates several Beaver Dam police officers.
A non-law enforcement crises negotiator later contacted Cowen and was subjected to several obscene comments throughout the conservation. Over three days in late June, authorities received over 80 harassing phone calls from Cowen.
When law enforcement arrested the 42-year-old at his home, he was uncooperative and belligerent, resisting arrest while making crude comments. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 20th.
