Beaver Dam Man Given Jail Time For Assaulting Minor

(Oak Grove) A Beaver Dam man was sentenced to six months in jail with work release privileges Wednesday for having inappropriate contact with a minor. In June, Matthew Hawley entered a guilty plea to a felony count of Second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. According to the criminal complaint, the 14-year-old met Hawley through an online website and they agreed to meet up at the Kwik Trip in Fox Lake on October 1st of 2018. Hawley took the victim to a Town of Oak Grove storage unit where he assaulted her. Investigators located Hawley from descriptions of his vehicle. When questioned, the 38-year-old admitted to meeting up with someone but fell silent and requested his lawyer when authorities suggested that something more had occurred that night. DNA tests of the victim matched buccal swabs taken from the suspect. Hawley was also placed on five years’ probation.
