An additional felony charge of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle was dismissed while a count of Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle was dismissed but read into the record. The accident happened in September of 2016 in the Sheboygan County Town of Sherman. The engine and transmission were ripped from the vehicle during the wreck and wound up in the ditch. Hammen and 61-year-old Freddie Nelson of Beaver Dam were flown from the scene. Nelson died three days later. According to the criminal complaint, he admitted to officers at the scene that he had been speeding and consuming alcohol. Hammen, who at the time of the crash owned Johnny’s Lounge in Beaver Dam, has five prior convictions for Operating While Intoxicated between 1999 and 2010.
