Beaver Dam Chamber’s Candidates Forum Held Thursday Night

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce held its fall candidates forum Thursday night. The candidates for Wisconsin’s 37th Assembly District were in attendance, including Republican Incumbent Mark Born and Democratic challenger LaToya Bates.

“I’ve always promised the same thing every two years to the voters of this district…I’ll take the common-sense, conversative values of this district to Madison…that’s exactly what my record reflects with the investments and things like education and healthcare,” Born said. “Local roads as well as more responsible budgeting and tax cuts…so, I’m going to continue to fight for those values if the district wants to continue to send me [to Madison].”

Democrat LaToya Bates is challenging for Born’s seat.

“I just want you to remember that I’m not a career politician…I am here because I too wanted to make a difference.” Bates said. “I saw that we had an assembly that does not necessarily do a full-time effort all the time…and somehow this fight between our governor and folks in office, we are paying the price and that’s why I’m here.”

Those in attendance also had the opportunity to meet the candidates for Beaver Dam mayor. The race features District 2 Alderperson Bobbi Marck.

“During my years here on city council…the Beaver Dam Area Development Board and the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation…I’ve learned that challenges facing our city and ways that we can work together to address them while being good stewards of our tax dollars.”

District 7 Alderperson and current common council president Jack Yuds is also seeking to be elected mayor.

“I answer my phone every time someone calls…I stop to talk to anybody who has questions about the city…I get a lot of questions from out of my district because they can’t get ahold of their alderman…that’s part of the reason why I decided to run for mayor…you got to represent the whole city.”
