(Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam will begin its 2024 street maintenance program Monday. Crews will crack, joint and chip seal approximately nine miles of city streets.
The crack and joint sealing process involves routing, cleaning, and filling of pavement cracks/joints with sealant to prevent infiltration of moisture into the pavement structure. The chip sealing process involves spraying an asphalt binder on the street followed by applying small diameter aggregate, rolling, compacting, and sweeping.
The aggregate may be cautiously driven on after it is applied, as there will be loose aggregate on the street until pick-up sweeping occurs one to three days after initial application. Crack, joint, and chip sealing requires that there be limited traffic on the street during the application process.
Department of Public Works officials say temporary no parking signs will be placed prior to work commencing and vehicles that remain parked on weekdays will be towed at the owner’s expense. Parking will be available on weekends.
