BDPD Warn Of Scams Involving Federal Agencies

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Police Department is seeing an increase in scams involving federal agencies. Department officials say if you get a text or call from someone claiming to be with any federal agency asking to send them money through gift cards, crypto or other means, it is a scam.

The police department also publicly shared an image of a fake ID that a scammer recently sent to a victim in Beaver Dam. Authorities say while it does look real, the ID is just a tool used to frighten potential victims. They note that scammers will play on emotions to get people to send them money or disclose sensitive information.

The public is being urged to contact law enforcement or talk with someone they know and trust if they feel something is not right. The Beaver Dam Police Department says once you send a scammer, a gift card or deposit money into a cryptocurrency ATM, your money is likely unrecoverable and there is little they can do to help.
