(BEAVER DAM) The Beaver Dam Police Department is reporting multiple people complaints about text messages that appear to be from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation demanding payment for fines. Detective Dan Kunz said it’s a scam.
“That’s not how the government acts when you’re due payment for something. You’ll never get a text message from the Department of Transportation for payment,” said Kunz. “Embedded in that text is a link that takes you to a website that does look legitimate. But simply clicking could install some viruses on your phone or on your computer.”
The police department is asking people to spread the word, so that nobody ends up losing a lot of money.
